Guide to Decorating With Blue Bedroom Furniture

Blue bedroom furniture adds soothing color to the space. It's not just for a boy's room or a nursery. You can give your existing furniture an entirely new look just by getting out the paint brush. Here are some tips for decorating with blue bedroom furniture whether you are making it over or buying the pieces new.

Find the right shade of blue for your mood and design style. Turquoise can seem retro or funky. It's one of the more cheerful blue colors and it works well for a teen's room. This shade even allows you to use blue in a baby girl's room because it's pretty gender neutral. Use bold colors like cobalt or navy for modern and contemporary design. With country and shabby chic decor you'll want to go with a faded gray blue color that is subtle. Whichever shade you choose make sure you convey the feeling that you want to have in your bedroom.

Make blue feminine. You might think that blue bedroom furniture is just for boys but this is really limiting your design options. Try upholstering an over-sized ornate fabric with luxurious micro-fiber or velvet to soften this color. You can also go for a full on blue canopy for a royal look that can mimic a four poster bed.

You can just add a few touches of blue to modernize your bedroom set. You could base your entire room around a French Country theme. You could break up a lot of different blue and white plates and then make a mosaic piece on the top of your nightstand or dresser. You could leave the piece natural wood for just a touch of blue or paint out the entire piece.

Make blue elegant. It's a pretty basic color for bedrooms but that doesn't mean that it has to be boring. You could try making an ethnic inspired piece by painting your drawer fronts in bright primary colors like yellow, blue and red. This doesn't have to look like a box of crayons, just mimic an intricate tile design. You can also paint your trim work silver or gold for a retro feel in updated colors.

Blue bedroom furniture adds personality to a space; especially if you have neutral walls and carpet. You can make light colors interesting by using a lot of different layers and this kind of furniture accomplishes just that.
